At the edge of the pond, Hippolyte the hippo floated like a big, tired rock. “To roar,” he murmured, “you must open your mouth… very wide… like this…” His jaws opened. They opened even wider. Nina could have parked a cart in there. “Aaaaaaaah…” Rori yawned too. Then Nina. Then a toad on a lily pad.

“Little zebra!” called Nina. “Where are you?” But the wind carried her voice away. “My voice is too small,” sighed Nina. “Mine too…” moaned Rori. Then, without stopping to think, the little cub puffed out his chest, opened his mouth wide, and… “ROOOAAAAAAARRRR!” A real roar, so mighty that the grass lay flat.
